You can install the extension in two ways:

Option A: Chrome Web Store (recommended)

Installation Guide

If you installed from the Chrome Web Store

1. Click "Add to Chrome" on the store page and confirm.
2. Pin the extension: click the puzzle icon (🧩) in the toolbar → find "PromptUp - Save AI Prompts" → click the pin (📌).
3. Open the extension and connect your PromptUp account.

If you installed from the website (manual install)

Step 1: Download & Extract

1. Download promptup-extension.zip from the link above.
2. Extract the ZIP to a folder on your computer.
3. Remember the folder path (e.g. Downloads/promptup-extension).

Step 2: Enable Developer Mode

1. Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions/
2. Turn "Developer mode" ON (top-right).

Step 3: Load the Extension

1. Click "Load unpacked" (top-left).
2. Select the extracted folder (the one containing manifest.json).
3. Click "Select Folder".

The PromptUp extension will appear in your extensions list.

Step 4: Pin the Extension (Recommended)

1. Click the puzzle icon (🧩) in the toolbar.
2. Find "PromptUp - Save AI Prompts" and click the pin (📌).

Getting Started

Connect Your Account

1. Click the PromptUp extension icon in your toolbar
2. Click "Connect to PromptUp"
3. Log in to your PromptUp account (or create one)
4. Once connected, you'll see your username in the popup

Save Prompts from AI Platforms

1. Visit ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini
2. Look for the blue "Save" button on conversation messages
3. Click it to open the save dialog
4. Add a title, tags, and choose visibility
5. Click "Save Prompt"

Save Text from Any Website

1. Select any text on a webpage (minimum 10 characters)
2. A floating "Save to PromptUp" button appears
3. Click it to open the save dialog
4. Fill in details and save!

Updating the Extension

• Chrome Web Store install: Updates automatically; no action needed.
• Website (manual) install: No auto-update. When a new version is available:
  1. Download the new ZIP from the link above.
  2. Extract it (same folder or a new one).
  3. Go to chrome://extensions/ and click the refresh icon (🔄) on the PromptUp card, or remove and re-add the extension.

Troubleshooting

"Save" button not appearing on AI platforms

• Refresh the page after installing the extension
• Make sure you're on a supported URL (chat.openai.com, chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com)
• The button may take a moment to appear on dynamically loaded messages

Floating button not appearing when selecting text

• Select at least 10 characters of text
• Make sure you're not on promptup.net (excluded by design)

Extension says "Not Connected"

• Click "Connect to PromptUp" in the popup
• Make sure you're logged in to your PromptUp account
• Try disconnecting and reconnecting

Save fails with error

• Check that you're connected (look for your username in the popup)
• Ensure you have an internet connection
• Try refreshing the page and saving again

Chrome shows "Disable developer mode extensions" warning

This is normal for manually installed extensions. You can safely dismiss this popup — your extension will continue to work.

Privacy & Security

• No tracking — We don't collect any browsing data
• Local storage — Your login token is stored locally securely
• You control what's saved — Only text you explicitly choose to save is sent to PromptUp
• Secure authentication — Uses encrypted JWT tokens
